The Gnat Display Team Open Day held

The Gnat Display Team with Henry Prince

The Gnat Display Team had let it be known that they wanted to thank everyone for their

support of the team during the 2014 display season & their transition to a 3-ship

display, so they held an informal Open Day at their North Weald base on 25th October 2014.

The event was also used as the official unveiling of the Team's major restoration project, a

single-seat Gnat F.1, which is in the process of slowly being rebuilt in preparation for it's return to flight,

hopefully, some time in the next couple of years.

This aircraft was sitting in the Team's hangar, in part, wearing its original & very colourful Indian Air Force markings.

As I arrived at the airfield, sitting outside the Gnat Team's Hangar was XS111 (G-TIMM)

& XR538/01 (G-RORI), XR992 (G-MOUR) was sitting on the cross runway near the Squadron.

All 3 aircraft would later fly together alongside a Strikemaster camera ship for some

air-to-air photography, before beating up the airfield with some fast & low fly-by's & formation flying.

It also turned out to be a terrific day weatherwise as well.

The camera ship was BAC 167 Strikemaster Mk.84 311 (G-MXPH).

Adding to the spectacle of the 3 Gnats flying together was the use of the smoke generators,

particularly memorable during the 3-ship formation take-off! Wowser!!!

I'd really like to thank everyone involved, Pilots & Engineers, everyone, for a really fantastic day.
